Bobby Day siempre será recordado por ser el autor y la voz tras "Rockin Robin", hit que alcanzó en 1958 el numero 2 en la listas de exitos. Éste sería el único gran éxito de una larga carrera.
Un "Rockin Robin" más pop vendría de la mano de los Hollies en 1964 en la cara B de su primer larga duración, Stay with the Hollies.
En 1972 éste sería el tema estrella elegido para el segundo single que un adolescente Michael Jackson sacaría en la Motown. Otra vez alcanzaría el numero dos en el Billboard. Capturaba como ninguno la esencia que Bobby Day le había dado a la versión original de la manera que un todavía cuerdo Jackson sabia hacerlo.
